Maybe he'll comment about what he got for his birthday. If he doesn't, there will be photos on my flickr page.

I know I try to find the right gift for someone to celebrate their birthday. I think it is fun to listen over several months and then remember what hints have been dropped.

True, you might not expect to have someone ask for pink flamingos for a gift...but he happened to be talking about his plans to spend more time in the yard. We passed these flamingos while out and about. We smiled at them and moved on. I had an opportunity to pick them up. He was honestly surprised and pleased. The smile is worth it.

I went to see Twight with friends on Sunday. After the movie, I stopped in the restroom and was overwhelmed with the amount of black and white checks. I snapped a photo to lool at the image again and to make sure that I wasn't crazy.

The reminds me of some of the first year projects during art school.

The stark white of the urinals really stands out.

and Twilight was too dark a movie to be able to knit during. I'm working with a dark purple yarn on dark needdles so it wasn't going to work. :)

I cannot feel a difference with this extra fabric and it just looks poorly made

Update on #1's Medusa Hat

Thanks for sending my friend, #1, your thoughts, prayers and healing light. Her surgery went quite well and her recovery continues to be amazing. She's recovering nicely at her parent's house through this week.

I'm just about finished #1's hat. The Medusa Hat pattern is by Tracy Bonkers and is found in Handpaint Country. My experiences with this hat are blogged here.

I'll be finishing the hat with an inner skull hat attached to the Medusa Hat. It will be softer on her head and will keep the edge down.

Now, go hug someone you love. You never know when they might not be there to hug.
Go, right now.
Hug them.

D's Special Gloves

D's Special Gloves

Here's a picture of the special gloves worn by the recipient. D has a great smile, doesn't she?

I reworked on these gloves a couple of times to make them fit. The first reworking was to adjust the finger length. The second time was to tighten the wrist ribbing. It looks like they don't quit fit. *dang*. I hate disappointing someone who is "knit worthy."

knitSB enjoying Italian pasta

knitSB and I enjoyed a pasta dinner on Sunday afternoon at Giorgio's on N High Street just south of Weber. I snapped this picture of him enjoying his pasta and meatballs. Othe pictures of my food can be found on my flickr page. Just click on his picture to be taken to see.

I started with a rather tasty salad and moved to chicken Marsala with gnocchi and vegetable pasta. These were quite tasty! The vegetable pasta was not pasta at all. It was sliced veggies cooked in some butter. nom nom nomma

We each got a dessert. I got tiramisu that was a slighly heavy but still delightful ending to the meal. Coffee would have been a nice addition but I opted out because I wanted to sleep that evening.

I liked the place. Our intention was to go out for pizza but Urbanspoon suggested this place as having pizza. No pizza on the menu but a pleasant dining experience in a quaint place with good service.

Need a Hugo Fix?

Two short videos of Hugo, the new dog.

He was really exhausted after playing in the park for over two hours. I don't think we'll be able to give him that much exercise every day. I'd be happy if we got two solid hours of walking in.

Cute tail, really. Don't worry, this is still a knitting blog.

FO 2009 D'zined Socks

I purchased some Dzined sock yarn when I attended the Maryland Sheep and Wool Festival in 2007. I'm happy to report that the yarn has been finally made into socks that can be worn! The pattern is from the toe-up with an after-thought heel. I'm pleased, overall. BTW: Dzined has gone out of business.

It was a pleasure to knit this and even better to wear them.

Knit on size 3 addi turbo 40" circular needles. You get to witness the realization that two-at-once-on-one-circular needle changes my gauge. Bummer. Does that happen to you?

Welcome Hugo!

Hi,
I've been away from the computer for about two weeks mostly because knitSB and I have added a 6 month old boxer to the knittingbrow household. He's full of energy and doing quite well, overall. We adopted him from our friend darkprincess who recently experienced a life changing divorce. It's certainly understandable that the do would be too much. We're grateful to have him in our life. He arrived being called "Duke." That didn't seem the right name to us. After a week, Hugo was the name that won out.

He has cut into my knitting time, honestly. This getting up early and taking him for a walk is cutting into my staying up late an knitting time. It's certainly worth the change.

The class I taught was "Yarn Substitution" at Knitters Mercantile. I really am grateful for the great students attending. They were very interested in finding out about yarn and asked thoughtful questions that gave opportunity for additional learning! I'm teaching another class on Saturday, April 25, 2009, 10:30-3:30 (with a lunch break). I really enjoy teaching this class! I learn something new each time.

EPS will be offered at Knitters Mercantile on Thursday evenings 4/2, 4/16, 4/30 and 5/14. The time between classes really do help the students keep up. The classes will be in the next quarter class list. Call the shop in March to sign up. No Chris, I've not forgotten the work on your sweater. The dog has taken most of my time. It's getting better and more time will be available.
