Falsettos

Available Light Theatre's current show is Falsettos. Songferret and I saw the show on Saturday night.
I thought this production was well-done and took advantage of the cast's wonderful voices and effective staging. It is a show worth seeing, especially in a more intimate venue.

I didn't get to knit much but I did get a little knitting done before the show started.



I just finished knitting the gusset decreases on Yarmando's test knit. Tomorrow I'll work on the second sock's gusset decreases and then it's just knit until I run out of yarn. I need to finish these socks so I can gauge swatch for the fronkenshteek sock.

Test knitting a beta pattern

I'm test knitting a beta version of the Arch-enemy sock pattern by yarmando. It's a good pattern and I'm making notes for suggestions. I was knitting last night in the back of the truck while using my headlamp so I could see. I snapped this photo of what it looked like I was working last night.

Evil Opted Out of the Rapture

Remember how the "Rapture" was supposed to take place a month back? The Sunday after, my knitting peeps get together and I saw this sight of the Evil Sock Genius Yarmando being called up.....
He opted not to go so he could continue his service to sock knitters everywhere.

2011 Great Lakes Fiber Show Review

I had a good time attending the 2011 Great Lakes Fiber Show with Yarmando & Darlamour.

I picked up three skeins of Creatively Dyed yarn.

On the left we have Woodbrook in colorway Toco. A 100% superwash merinao 250 yards (gauge 4-5 sts per inch on a 7-9)
Center we have Valencia in colorway Ramsay. A 100% extra fine superwash merinao 250 yards (gauge 4-5 sts per inch on a 7-9)
On the right we have Woodbrook in colorway Julian. A 100% superwash merinao 250 yards (gauge 4-5 sts per inch on a 7-9)

I wanted to find worsted weight superwash so I could knit socks.  I cast-on with the Valencia on a size 6 and I don't think it's a true worsted weight.  I'm going to have to go to a size 3 to get a firm enough gauge for socks. I'm waiting to knit these until I finish another pair of socks.

He picked up a sweater's worth of yarn.

The best line of the visit came from darlamour. "What's with the kkk sheep?"  I think the picture explains it all.


I picked up an ecolution hemp bag TRT1: The Rainforest which is the perfect size for a pair of socks.

I had a good time and appreciated being driven up and enjoying the lemon shake-up. 

Next time I'll show you my basket.  You know you want to see my basket. It's okay.  You wouldn't be the first person to ask to see it.

Ever wonder what it's like to knit with us on a Monday night?  This is just a slice of the fun.  All comments are made with good intentions. 



Yarmando was very kind and showed Amy how to cast on for toe-up socks using his Evil Genius Pattern. 

I learn to knit an Aran Vest

Yarn Harlot and the 2010 Knitting Olympics is a great idea started in 2006.  Also was created is the Ravelympics for those on Ravelry. 

Aran Knitting is quite beautiful. I haven't done Aran knitting before.  Yarmando tells me that it's just cabling and I've done cabling before.  So I cast-on and began this vest.  I'll give the details of the vest in a future blog post. 

While I was working through the twisted cable rib, I was okay with it.  Until I got to the beginning of the cable set-up rows.  I was 6 (or 8) sts off.  What the freak?!  I counted the sts several times.  So I simply added sts.

There are three charts in this vest.  Two repeat every 8 rounds, one repeats every 20 rounds.  I've got it figured out how track the rows.  It was kinda blah when I started the charts. It took more concentration that I expected.  After another two inches, I started to be able to read my knitting and know what was supposed to happen next.  I think that feels nice. 

I'm enjoying the knitting and will be at the armholes soon.  I won't make it to complete in the Knitting Olympics. 

Simply Shetland 4 book

While I was at TNNA, I got to see some information about upcoming books.
I'm looking forward to Simply Shetland 4 because there are some wonderful men's sweaters. It is out in "fall 2007" so it could be before Christmas?

You know how hard it is to find good men's sweater patterns that are interesting to knit? It's hard people! I'm going to need to write my own patterns. *wouldn't it be cool to actually get something published on knitty? It has to be better than most of the items from this issue.

Speaking of patterns, Kent left a comment and asked if I have a favorite sock pattern.
No, I don't have a favorite pattern. I haven't been able to get a sock that doesn't bunch on the top of my foot around the ankle. I do like toe-up sock patterns because I can be certain not to run out of yarn if I have two skeins. Yarmando has a nice pattern that he's working on frequently. (check out the sidebar). Do you have any suggestions?
